Company Update
Dan Champ shares how his Christian faith influences his approach to leadership, service, and building Champ Tours with a strong sense of responsibility to the people it serves.
ROSEVILLE, CA / ACCESS Newswire / September 14, 2026 / For Champ Tours founder Dan Champ, entrepreneurship is about more than building a successful travel company. It is also an opportunity to put his personal values into practice.
As Champ Tours continues to develop educational and cultural group travel experiences for students and active adults, Champ says his Christian faith plays an important role in how he approaches the responsibilities of running the company. Rather than viewing faith and business as separate parts of his life, he sees principles such as service, integrity, patience, and respect as directly relevant to the way he leads.
"My faith has always been personal to me, but as I have gotten older, I have thought more about what those beliefs actually ask of me," Champ said. "It is one thing to say that you value service or patience. It is another thing to practice those values when you are busy, when something goes wrong, or when the easiest decision may not be the best one."
Service as a Business Responsibility
Champ founded Champ Tours in 2024 after more than two decades of experience coordinating group travel. The company organizes travel experiences that connect people with history, culture, entertainment, and one another.
For Champ, the nature of the travel business makes service particularly important. Travelers are placing significant trust in the people organizing their experience. They are committing their time and money months in advance, often traveling far from home and relying on someone else to manage details ranging from transportation and accommodations to activities and schedules.
That responsibility becomes even more significant when families are entrusting younger travelers to a group experience.
"When someone signs up for one of our trips, I don't look at that as simply another registration," Champ said. "There is a person behind it, and there is usually a family behind it as well. They are trusting us to think through details they may never see. I believe we have a responsibility to take that trust seriously."
Champ says that perspective has shaped the way he thinks about customer service. Providing good service does not always mean saying yes to every request. Sometimes it requires making a difficult decision because of safety, logistics, timing, or the needs of the larger group.
The goal, he says, is to make those decisions with the people involved in mind rather than choosing whatever is most convenient for the business.
Faith in the Everyday Decisions
Champ is careful not to suggest that there is only one way to lead a company or that everyone he works with needs to share his beliefs. Instead, he describes faith as the foundation that influences his own approach to leadership.
For him, that influence often appears in ordinary decisions rather than dramatic ones.
"How do I respond when somebody is frustrated? Am I listening when someone has a concern, or am I already thinking about my answer? Do I keep a commitment when keeping it becomes inconvenient?" Champ said. "Those situations may seem small, but I think they tell you a lot about the values you are actually living."
Those questions have become increasingly important as Champ has moved further into entrepreneurship.
Running a business naturally requires attention to revenue, expenses, growth, scheduling, and new opportunities. Champ believes those realities are necessary and should not be ignored. At the same time, he does not believe financial performance should be the only measure used when making a decision.
He says responsible leadership sometimes means turning down an opportunity, slowing an expansion, or reconsidering a plan if the company cannot deliver the experience people have been promised.
Growing Without Losing the Purpose
That philosophy has also influenced how Champ approaches the growth of Champ Tours.
The company initially developed around student travel experiences and has since expanded into opportunities for active senior travelers. One example came after a conversation with Champ's father, Art, who suggested that seniors might enjoy the Broadway Experience Champ had previously organized for younger travelers.
Instead of dismissing the suggestion because it fell outside his original plan, Champ considered how the experience might be adapted for another audience. That idea eventually contributed to a Broadway Experience for senior travelers.
For Champ, the experience reinforced two principles that have become increasingly important to his approach to entrepreneurship: listen carefully and remain willing to change.
"Experience is valuable, but I don't want experience to make me assume that I already have every answer," Champ said. "Sometimes leadership means making a decision. Other times it means listening when someone sees something you have missed."
As new opportunities arise, Champ says he wants growth to remain deliberate. Expanding for the sake of becoming larger matters less to him than making sure Champ Tours can keep delivering thoughtful, well-organized experiences.
A Broader Definition of Success
Champ's understanding of success has also changed over time.
Building a sustainable company remains an important goal, but he increasingly thinks about success in terms of family, faith, health, relationships, and the impact his decisions have on other people.
"I am proud of what I am building, and I want Champ Tours to continue growing," Champ said. "But I don't think success is only about how large a business becomes. I think you also have to ask what kind of person you are becoming while you build it and how you are treating people along the way."
That idea brings Champ back to service.
He does not view service as a marketing strategy or a company slogan. Instead, he sees it as an ongoing standard against which he can evaluate his own leadership.
"I certainly don't get every decision right," Champ said. "What I try to come back to is a simple question: What does serving the people who have trusted me look like in this situation? My faith has helped me understand leadership through that lens, and entrepreneurship gives me opportunities to practice it every day."
